One-on-One walking tour with Yusuf

The Lightroom 4 2012 process is really wonky for b/w conversions, the tones get compressed and it looks like someone dialed the Clarity filter all the way up. When I first updated, I made the mistake of using LR4 with the new process on a job and was not happy with the tones…
I also dislike how it handles Highlight/Shadows/Whites/Blacks, the old 2010 process Recovery/Fill Light/Blacks seems more intuitive, and it doesn’t screw with the tones as much, which allows me for my signature look with punchy blacks while maintaining a long tonal range.

Remedy #1 – keep your 2010 presets around (I’ll have to dig out my M9 sunny day profile, as I updated to 2012)
Remedy #2 – in the “Develop” module, go all the way down to “Camera Calibration” and select Process 2010

oh, and one for the new “hardcore” b/w film shooters: real men develop their own black and white film
