Sweet capture Markus. He appears so isolated and weighed down with his problems. The rest of the passengers seem not to notice his “pain”.
BTW, 24mm Nikkor again

Another super photo that speaks of human values and incontruity! As always, exceptional tonal range. It’s great to see you use the Canon 24mm and 20D. This is my fav combination when I did street photography in NY Chinatown. Quesiton: as a 20D user, do you find the shutter sound disturbs people, esp in an environment as in this picture? I’m moving to Jakarta, Indonesia. That combo will be my fav as well. But I wish I had a rangefinder (the RD-1 is as close as I see. I cant afford lots of film, or I’d get a Leica and 35mm lens). — You’re my teacher! — Rodney

hello Rodney,
I used to have a 10D, which is much more quiet than the 20D -
however in the meantime I have upgraded to a 5D which is louder
than the 10D, but still pretty quiet for an SLR.
Usually people don’t pick up on the noise of the shutter, because
they can’t place the sound. Also, as the photographer, you’re more
conscious about the shutter noise. Modern cameras are pretty well damped,
I would not try to take this photograph with my AE-1…
The RD-1 is pretty loud (and tinny sounding) as well

Markus I love this shot, it’s a image that could have a number of meanings depending on the mood of the viewer. The background adds the spice, it emphasises the isolation we can all feel even in a busy place surrounded by humanity..

Such a beautiful photograph. The composition would be compelling anyway, but especially in black & white. Fantastic.
