That’s a f***ing awesome shot. Taken with the ricoh? So busy and full of life. Love the subject lower left hand corner. If I had any money whatsoever I’d order a copy of this and frame it on my wall.

love this shot. i used to take the number 2 or 3 downtown from 116th street. this picture reminds me of what the train looks like at 96th street or 42nd street, when everyone stuffs in. same question for you as the previous poster: what camera you use for this one?

thank you guys… prints are available at affordable rates – I took this shot with a EOS 5D and a Canon 28mm f1.8

Ive only just discovered your blog, so forgive me if youve been asked this before — but how do people react to having their photo taken in public spaces such as this?

  • http://www.markushartel.com Markus Hartel

people generally do notice my camera (I have a decent amount of photos where the subject is staring at me/the camera), but I guess they don’t realize what happens and I’m gone…
For this particular shot I used a EOS 5D w/ a 28mm lens and this was the first pic out of 4 or so where I caught her face. so, I’m sure she noticed me all along…

This is a god damn great photo! A frozen moment in time. You almost want to create a story about this photo with each person being a character. Great job! I even blogged about this photo for the photo of the day!

Your photos are crisp and full of life. I’m most impressed with how you manage to capture people in this way. I could never do it but am envious at the ability. Great work here.

Are the people this apathetically there? I am astonished, what you explain about capturing this image. Or maybe you’re invisible? ;-)
I love this shot: its closeness and its dense nativeness.

I’ve been looking at your photos for about a year now and have been using them as my desktop backgrounds ever since. NYC would be a dream for me. I want to thank you for allowing me to experience the city each time I open up my computer.
