Great shot. Are you entering this one into the Photofriday contest this week? The theme is poverty, and obviously this one suits.
On another note, I have my first black and white shot off film on my blog. Stop by and take a look if you get the chance seeing as how your site insipred me to blow the dust of my dad's old SLR. :)
I fancy all your pictures.
Anyway, when you take pictures of the homeless and unfortunates, do you feel obligated to perhaps give a hand out or any spare change?
@Andrew - thanks for the Photofriday notice, I didn't submit anything over there for ages.
Have fun with your Dad's film camera
@Gael - thank you :D
@N. Saari - I give some change or a bill, whenever the situation
allows it.
@Craig - over the time I "learned" to stay away from taking
photographs of the unfortunate & homeless, there's many of
them in this city. This one I couldn't pass, as sad as it is...
I'm trying to imagine how hard it must be to work as a PJ in
certain situations...
This is very powerful and sad to look at. I can understand you not passing it, as it doesn't seem like the normal everyday scene. It really makes one stop and think!
Great shot! He seems to be calling out in destitution.
By the way, I just glanced through some of your archives and noticed that you don't seem to have any vertical shots. Any reason? Or just a coincidence?
hello Sam,
this has been on my list for a long time now - the format of
this blog doesn't work for verticals. I always wanted to make
a template for vertical shots. one day, some day...
Ah, I see. Hope to see those in the future. It does seem that vertical shots aren't that common in street photography. Although, I would admit that I haven't seen a large number of photos.
Hi Markus,
Your style is very compelling and I love your street photography.
This shot is so raw. You can't help feeling like wanting to help the man in the rags.
